Supervisor Bradford called the Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board to order. Present were Bradford, Burgett, Fogarty, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 24 citizens.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-April 15, 2008; Special Meeting Minutes- None; Planning Commission Meeting Minutes-None; bills through April 15, 2008; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

Clerk: No Report.

Guest Speaker: Larry Hummel, Van Buren County Road Commission. Update on road work.

Public Comment: M. Arens—4 yard sales will be held in the township parking lot this summer.

Announcements: None

Additions/Corrections to Agenda: Motion by Bradford, second by Burgett, to add Seal coat as #4 New Business. Carried Unanimously. Motion by Harrington, second by Bradford, to add A. Johnson blight as #5 New Business. Carried Unanimously.

Supervisor: No Report

Assessor: Reported about the Board Of Review that was held in March.

Fire Chief: 14 calls received in April: Structure Fires, 1 mutual aid to Bloomingdale, 1 shed/garage/barn, 3 because of exposure to another fire; 5 woods/brush/trash fires; 1 grass fire; 1 car fire; 1 returned to scene for hotspots; 1 accident; 1 assist to CEMS; 2 citizen complaint investigations. Average response time was 8.17 minutes. Upcoming events: May 25, final practical exercises for this year’s graduating firefighters in Bangor; May 25, fundraiser for the Relay for Life at the township hall; May 26, Breedsville Memorial Day Parade; May 31, Firefighter roof sit at the township hall; July 5, pancake breakfast at the township hall.

Sheriff: No Report.

State Police: No Report.

County Commissioner: No Report.

Planning Commission: No Report.

Neighborhood Watch: Next meeting-June 5-7:30 pm. Sheriff Gribler will be presenting the citizen of the year award. McGruff will be the special guest at the pancake breakfast. Metal prices are up and theft is high.

Hospital: Events-April 30, luncheon to honor the volunteers for their hard work; May 6, 13, 20, 27, Smoking Cessation sessions; May 17, Mini Relay for Life; May 22, Arthritis Medicines session.

South Haven Senior Services: Photography seminar at ISD.

Recreation/Cemetery: No Report.

Zoning Administrator: 5 Zoning Compliances issued in April: 2 deck additions; 1 used mobile; 1 rebuild deck; & 1 modular.

Blight Officer: No report.

Correspondence: Email received from the auditor that he received from Ken Speicher questioning the legality of amending the budget without a public hearing. The auditor’s response was that a public hearing is only held when the budget is adopted. Letter from the Saddle Lake Association requesting to extend the special assessment time for weed control for Saddle Lake.

New Business: 1. Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to approve Resolution 2008-15, Critical Bridge 24th Av. Roll call vote; Bradford aye, Burgett aye, Fogarty aye, Hurley aye, Harrington aye. Carried unanimously. 2. Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to approve Resolution 2008-16, Support for Congressman Upton Broadband Funds. Roll call vote; Bradford aye, Burgett aye, Fogarty aye, Hurley aye, Harrington aye. Carried unanimously. 3. Motion by Bradford, second by Burgett, to be closed May 23rd through May 26, for Memorial Day. Carried unanimously. 4. Motion by Bradford, second by Hurley, to approve sealcoat for 49th between CR 380 & 14th; 4th Av. Between CR 681 to 57th; 57th from 4th to end; 51-1/2 St. between CR 388 & Baseline. Carried unanimously. 5. Motion by Harrington, second by Bradford to cancel the blight complaint against Lonnie Johnson. Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to table until the next meeting. Carried Unanimously.
