Supervisor Bradford called the Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board to order. Present were Bradford, Burgett, Fogarty, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 21 citizens.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-January 17, 2006; Special Meeting Minutes- January 19, 2006; Planning Commission Meeting Minutes-January 3, 2006; bills through February 21, 2006; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.
Clerk: VB County Treasurer—Police Protection--$7.680.57
Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve the bills paid after the consent agenda. Carried unanimously.
Guest Speaker: Jennifer Carver & Dick Curtis from South Haven Area Senior Services, urging the board to put the Senior millage on the August ballot.
Public Comment: None
Announcements: The combined ideas of Mike Fogarty and Butch Greiffendorf were used by Lisa Barnes Lopez to create the township flag.
Additions/Corrections to Agenda: Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to add Item #11 to New Business; Ordinance to Impose Penalties. Carried unanimously.
Supervisor: Tom & Sally Sosnowski paid for the mileage and the cost for Dale Bradford to attend a Water Law Seminar.
Sheriff: 180 complaints received in January: 2 abandoned vehicle, 28 accidents, 9 alarm activation, 1 animal at large, 26 assault, 1 ATT pickup, 8 be on the look out, 4 breaking & entering, 2 conservation, 1 criminal sexual conduct; 1 delinquent minor, 3 flee/allude, 2 fraudulent activity, 40 general assistance, 1 hit & run, 2 invasion of privacy, 6 larceny, 5 MDOP, 2 missing person, 4 obstructing justice, 2 open intoxicant, 1 under the influence of liquor, 6 public peace, 1 reckless firearm, 18 suspicious situation, 1 traffic stop, 1 traffic violation, 2 vehicle inspection.
State Police: No Report.
County Commissioner: The County Commissioners are working with the Road Commission on the use of county vehicles being driven home. The Road Commission is working on the problem with the corners of CR 388 and CR 215.
Fire Chief: 2 calls received in January; 1 medical assist, 1 canceled. Average response time was 5.50 minutes. To participate in the Smoke Detector Give-away program, call 637-1813. The annual awards dinner was held January 28. The winners were Deputy Ron Douglas, Keeper of the Flame; Rey Reyna, Columbia Township Firefighter of the Year; Mike Brewer, 2005 Distinguished Service Award; Rachel Craft & Brian Anderson received honorable mention; Dave Johnson, Firefighters Choice Award.
Planning Commission: February 7 meeting: Completed the 2 Ag zones and the Commercial District. Approved proposed changes recommended by attorney. Kelly from MSU will be at the March 7 meeting.
Neighborhood Watch: Next meeting-March 2nd-7:30 pm.
Book Station: Rosemary Hurley presented the township with the balance of the Book Station funds $2,438.52, to be used for parks, recreation, etc.
Hospital: The Heart to Heart Screening program was held this month at Shoreline Internal Medicine Office, Cooper Medical Clinic, and Covert Medical Center.
South Haven Senior Services: No Report.
Recreation/Cemetery: Latchaw Farms would like to trade a portion of their land along side Thomson Cemetery in exchange for some cemetery lots. Harrington will get required surveys etc. for the next meeting.
Zoning Administrator: 3 Zoning Compliances issued in January: 1 enclosed porch, 1 double wide 1 pole building.
Recognition Ceremony: An award was presented to Deputy Ron Douglas from Sheriff Gribler.
Correspondence: None
Old Business: Motion by Burgett, Second by Fogarty, to keep the insurance liability as is for the current year. Carried unanimously.
New Business:
| Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to discuss the letter from Frank Grubisich in regards to waiving the balance due from the lawsuit, because of health issues. Carried unanimously. Public Comment: Ron Douglas thanked everyone for the positive feed back he has been receiving.
Congratulations to Carl & Tammy Leadingham for completing training. Two boxers are loose and have been reported to have killed an animal.
