Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals complete tasks for effective Township Planning. So, what are these organizations?
The Columbia Township Planning Commission consists of five members who serve 3-year terms. The Township Board appoints the commissioners. The commissioners meet at least monthly to develop and maintain the Township’s master plan, develop and maintain zoning ordinances, and vote on issues related to the development of the Township. Their goal in all this is to protect the personality and vitality of the community.
The Planning Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.

Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA)
The Columbia Township Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) handles the appeal of administrative decisions made by other bodies or officials of the township, construes and interprets the zoning ordinance language, and provides for variances. This board consists of three seated members and two alternates serving 3-year terms. The board meets once a month as needed.
The Zoning Board of Appeals meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. as needed.
