Supervisor Bradford called the Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board to order. Present were Bradford, Burgett, Nuismer, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 17 citizens.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-August 18, 2009; Special Meeting Minutes- None; Planning Commission Meeting Minutes-August 17, 2009; bills through September 15, 2009; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Burgett, second by Nuismer, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

Clerk: Bills paid after the Consent Agenda. Back Roads-$294.50; Klett-$35,954. Motion by Burgett, second by Nuismer, to approve the bills paid after the consent agenda. Carried unanimously.

Assessor: No Report

Fire Chief: 2 calls received in August: 1 car fire and 1 mutual aid. Average response time was 8.5 minutes. Everyone should check their heating systems before winter.

Sheriff: 96 complaints received in August: 6 assault; 2 harassing/nuisance; 1 breaking & entering; 3 larceny; 1 stolen vehicle; 1 flee/elude; 1 obstructing justice; 1 explosive; 9 public peace; 1 hit & run; 7 health/safety; 5 invasion of privacy; 1 conservation; 1 delinquent minor; 7 accident; 1 abandon/hazard; 8 alarm activation; 2 civil/property dispute; 6 suspicious situation; 14 general assistance; 2 att pick up; 15 be on the lookout; 1 for your info. The Sheriff’s department received a grant for overtime to check for drunk drivers.

State Police: No Report.

County Commissioner: The Road Commission is responsible for the upkeep of the Kalhaven Trail in Van Buren County. The Veterans Affairs office will be open on Wednesday from 8:30 to 4:00.

Planning Commission: On October 19th there will be a public hearing on the proposed Master Plan revisions.

Neighborhood Watch: Next meeting-October 1, 2009-7:30 pm. Watch your neighbors property for suspicious activity. A tracking device is available for people who wander.

Hospital: Flu Clinic-October 7, 2-6pm; October 8, 8-10am;Many classes are available for the public.

South Haven Senior Services: Care watch will be at the Columbia Township Hall on Thursdays from 10-11:30am. Menards is supplying materials at cost & labor is being donated for wheelchair ramps for people who qualify.

Recreation/Cemetery: No Report.

Zoning Administrator: 4 zoning compliances issued in August. 3 pole barns & 1 modular.

Blight Officer: No Report.

Correspondence: None

Old Business: Motion by Bradford, second by Burgett, to delay attorney action, on the people living in campers on CR 384, until the October 20th meeting. At that time all permits must be obtained for a permanent residence. After discussion it was carried unanimously.

New Business: 1. Motion by Bradford, second by Burgett, to approve Firefighter Training for $2080. After discussion it was carried unanimously.

2. Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to approve Resolution 2009-24, Enforcement Officer. After discussion it was carried unanimously. Roll call vote: Bradford aye, Burgett aye, Fogarty aye, Hurley aye, Harrington aye. Carried unanimously. 3. No Vote Required. 4. Motion by Bradford, second by Burgett, to purchase duty uniforms for the firefighters at a cost of $1885. After discussion it was carried unanimously.

5. Motion by Burgett, second by Nuismer, to approve Resolution 2009-23, Resolution regarding Dutch Mill/Silver Saddle Saloon Petition. After discussion it was carried unanimously. Roll call vote: Bradford aye, Burgett aye, Fogarty aye, Hurley aye, Harrington aye. Carried unanimously.

Public Comment: J.Huizenga-Todd Oliver has info about Dutch Mill. There is 5 counts of liquor violations pending. Jerry Polk has complied with all that has been requested of him.
