RESOLUTION 2009-22

"Closing of District Court"

WHEREAS, it has been announced the Van Buren County Commissioners are considering closing the 7th District Court in South Haven and acquiring and constructing a new unified Court Complex in Paw Paw; and,

WHEREAS, the 7th District Court in South Haven is necessary to provide reasonable access to justice the citizens of the South Haven and adjoining areas; and,

WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the Columbia Township Board, that the closing of the 7th District Court will result in a negative impact on the law enforcement and the costs of creating a new unified Court Complex in Paw Paw are not justified at this time.

NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved the Columbia Township Board expresses its opposition to closing the South Haven District Court and construction of a new unified Court Complex in Paw Paw.

BE IF FURTHER RESOLVED, a copy of this resolution shall be forwarded by the clerk to the Van Buren County Commissioners forthwith.

The foregoing resolution offered by Board Member Burgett and supported by Board Member Hurley.
