Supervisor Bradford called the Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board to order. Present were Bradford, Burgett, Fogarty, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 31 citizens.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-August 19, 2008; Special Meeting Minutes- None; Planning Commission Meeting Minutes-August 18, 2008; bills through September 16, 2008; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

Clerk: Bills paid after the Consent Agenda. Dave Pabis-Electrical Inspector-$266 Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve the bills paid after the consent agenda. Carried unanimously.

Guest Speaker: None

Public Comment: R. Hurley-The purchase made by Mary Burgett at Kohl’s, that was published in last weeks Reminder, was for accessories used by the Columbia Township Board in the 4th of July parade in South Haven.

Supervisor: He has checked out many road complaints after the heavy rains.

Assessor: None

Fire Chief: 3 calls received in August: 1 structure fire, 1 smoke detector activation, & 1 unknown. Average response time was 5.00 minutes. The new tanker should be delivered in 5-6 weeks. A statement was read about a house fire on September 1st.

Sheriff: 112 complaints received in August: 1 abandoned vehicle, 9 accidents, 5 alarm activation, 7 assault, 3 ATT pickup, 14 be on the look out, 2 breaking & entering, 1 civil/property disputes, 1 criminal sexual conduct; 4 flee/allude, 1 fraudulent activity, 25 general assistance, 8 health & safety, 1 hit & run, 1 invasion of privacy, 7 larceny, 1 lost/found property, 5 MDOP, 5 obstructing justice, 1 open intoxicant, 4 public peace, 4 suspicious situation, 2 traffic violation.

State Police: No Report.

County Commissioner: No Report.

Planning Commission: Watershed updates.

Neighborhood Watch: The new speaker system is wonderful. Converters are being stolen from cars at the public lake accesses.

Hospital: Dr. U, Pediatrician, has joined the staff of SH Hospital. Renovations of the OB Department should be completed in November. October is breast cancer awareness month. Volunteers are need for the hospital.

South Haven Senior Services: Pierogis are on sale for $7 per dozen. Call 637-3607.

Recreation/Cemetery: No Report.

Zoning Administrator: 6 Zoning Compliances issued in August: 1 roof over an existing porch; 1 addition, 1 deck/ramp; 1 reroof; 1 home; 1 screened porch.

Blight Officer: No Report

New Business: 1. Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to set trick or treat hours on October 31st, 5-7 pm. Carried unanimously. 2. Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to allow a person, with limited funds, from a township without cemeteries, to be buried in the Columbia Township cemetery free of charge. Each case to be determined by the funeral director. Carried unanimously. 3. Motion by Bradford, second by Hurley, to accept the resignation of Jim Sykora from the Zoning Board of Appeals. Carried unanimously. 4. Motion by Bradford, second by Burgett, to appoint Linda Seaman to fill the vacancy on the Zoning Board of Appeals. Carried unanimously. 5. Motion by Bradford, second by Burgett, to set the public hearing for the Saddle Lake Weed Assessment for October 21st @ 6:30 pm. Carried unanimously. 6. Motion by Bradford, second by Hurley, to approve the Michigan Township Services quote for the Master Plan Amendments of $6,000. Carried Unanimously. 7. Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to approve the VB County Sheriff Contract. Carried Unanimously. 8. Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve Resolution 2008-19, Budget Amendment. Roll call vote: Bradford aye, Burgett aye, Fogarty aye, Hurley aye, Harrington aye. Carried unanimously. Notices:

Public Comment: F. Grubisich-a paddle boat that was loose has been tied to my doc since August 10th. R. Hurley-a pontoon is stuck and I have a black jet ski tied at my dock. T. Jung-the boards for the Saddle Lake Drain need to be removed. D. Curtis-They have been called about the boards. Cooley-He has low income glasses information.

Motion by Fogarty, second by Burgett, to adjourn. Carried unanimously.
