Supervisor Bradford called the Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board to order. Present were Bradford, Burgett, Fogarty, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 26 citizens.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-July 15, 2008; Planning Commission Meeting Minutes-July 21, 2008; bills through August 19, 2008; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

Clerk: Bills paid after the Consent Agenda. OSI International-Monitor-$468.50; Fire Catt-test hose-$2049.13; Flametamer-fire ext test-$22.25. Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve the bills paid after the consent agenda. Carried unanimously. August 5, 2008 election results attached.

Additions/Corrections to Agenda: None

Supervisor: A question has been raised about the election inspectors training. The training certificates along with the meeting notice for appointing the election inspectors will be part of the minutes. The township is checking into recycling.

Assessor: A bill that would keep the taxable from going up when the assessed value goes down, has been presented by Rep. Hogendyk.

Fire Chief: 10 calls received in July: 1 car fire; 2 motor vehicle accidents; 1 mutual aid assist to Bangor; 2 power lines down; 1 unauthorized burning; 1 grass fire; 1 assist to CEMS; 1 good intent. Average response time was 7.2 minutes.

Sheriff: Deputy Todd Oliver presented the report for the month of July.

State Police: No Report.

County Commissioner: The Commissioners are working on the phosphorus ban and the budget.

Planning Commission: No Report.

Neighborhood Watch: Next meeting-September 4, 2008-7:30 pm. Remove non prescription drugs from home for safety.

Hospital: No Report.

South Haven Senior Services: 34% increase in the number of seniors served by SHASS. More seniors are needed to sign up for commodities.

Recreation/Cemetery: No Report.

Zoning Administrator: 4 Zoning Compliances issued in July: 1 addition; 1 porch enclosure; 1 kitchen remodel; 1 new home.

Blight Officer: None

Correspondence: None

Old Business: Motion by Hurley, second by Burgett, to approve installation of a fuel tank from Fleming & fence, not to exceed $1,700. Carried unanimously.

Motion by Bradford, second by Fogarty, to drop the purchase of training equipment. Carried unanimously.

New Business: 1. Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to purchase a sound system for the meeting room, not to exceed $3,184.81. Carried unanimously. 2. Motion by Bradford, second by Burgett, to purchase a projector & screen, along with the installation of an electrical outlet not to exceed $1200. Carried unanimously. 3. Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to approve an increase to $10 per hour for the election inspectors. Carried unanimously. 4. Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve Resolution 2008-20-Banking Transactions Resolution. Motion by Bradford, second by Fogarty, to amend the Resolution to have 2 signatures for all Tax & Trust & Agency Checks. Motion by Hurley, second by Harrington, to take a 5 minute break. Carried unanimously. Roll call vote: Bradford aye; Burgett aye; Fogarty aye; Hurley aye; Harrington aye. Carried unanimously. 5. Motion by Bradford, second by Hurley, to approve $700 for sending 2 people to the fire academy. Carried unanimously.

Public Comment: M. Gibson-Would like to know the amount of money the Columbia Township Property Taxpayers Association has been costing the township. D. Curtis-Would like to know the status of the Professional Lake Management contract. D. Cooley-Presented the board with his code of conduct.

Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to adjourn. Carried unanimously.
