Supervisor Bradford called the Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board to order. Present were Bradford, Burgett, Fogarty, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 25 citizens.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-June 17, 2008; Special Meeting Minutes- None; Planning Commission Meeting Minutes-None; bills through July 15, 2008; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

Clerk: Bills paid after the Consent Agenda.

CDJ Property Maintenance-Back up Generator for FD-$4000 Consumers Energy-$404.50 Dave Pabis-$442 Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve the bills paid after the consent agenda. Carried unanimously.

Guest Speaker: Introduce Chip Ray Road Commissioner for our area.

Public Comment: D. Pabis-Columbia Township officials are doing a great job. M. Arens-Township officials have supported the Senior Dinners and are very helpful at all times. Tru Blu donated over $840 worth of jams & jellies to the seniors. The yard sale was rained out last weekend. M.Underwood-The Fire Department did a very good job at the fire near Silver Lake.

Announcements: Primary Election August 5, 2008 7am to 8pm. You cannot split your vote

Additions/Corrections to Agenda: None

Supervisor: The Supervisor was given a tour and had lunch with Tonya Schuitmaker in Lansing on June 19.

Assessor: Explained a little about Conditional Homestead Exemption. Some officials in other areas are the assessors.

Fire Chief: 3 calls received in June: 1 assist to CEMS; 1 stove fire, and 1 power line down. Thank you to everyone who came to the Pancake Breakfast. Special congratulations to Lieutenant Dave Johnson. While on a family outing at the zoo, a person was noticed slumped over and not breathing in a wheelchair. Dave initiated CPR to the person and regained a pulse.

Sheriff: 90 complaints received in June: 1 abandoned vehicle, 4 accidents, 8 alarm activation, 10 animal at large, 2 armed robbery, 1 ATT pickup, 15 be on the look out, 2 criminal sexual conduct; 1 dog law violation, 2 fraudulent activity, 16 general assistance, 1 invasion of privacy, 9 larceny, 5 MDOP, 2 open intoxicant, 1 runaway, 1 stolen vehicle, 1 recovered stolen vehicle, 6 suspicious situation, 1 traffic violation, 1 weapons violation.

State Police: No Report.

County Commissioner: No Report.

Planning Commission: No Report.

Neighborhood Watch: No Report.

Hospital: The Cooper Clinic is open. The Wellness Center is doing very well.

South Haven Senior Services: Coupons are available for farmers markets & stands. Van Buren Transit goes through Columbia Township 3-4 days a week.

Recreation/Cemetery: No Report.

Zoning Administrator: 5 Zoning Compliances issued in June: 3 pole barns; 1 used modular, & 1 used modular/garage.

Blight Officer: None

Correspondence: None

Old Business: Motion by Bradford, second by Burgett, to take no action on the Al Johnson Blight complaint. Everything is cleaned up. Carried unanimously.

New Business: None.

Public Comment: R. Hurley-Recycle old cell phones at the township hall. The sheriffs crew has cleaned the roadsides twice this summer. L. Miller-There has been destruction of her campaign signs. D. Bradford-There has been a complaint about her signs obstructing the roadways. M. Arens-a tree is leaning precariously at the stop on the Kalhaven Trail. D. Beckwith-the closest recycling that he knows about is in Kalamazoo. H. Braunz-There is confusion on the days the township dump is open. Signs are needed.

Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to adjourn. Carried unanimously.
