RESOLUTION 2008-01

ORDINANCE TO REPEAL

THE OFFICE OF TOWNSHIP CONSTABLE

WHEREAS, Michigan law provides that townships may have elected township constables, and,

WHEREAS, a township, by ordinance, may eliminate the position of township constable, and,

WHEREAS, Columbia Township at the present time has no need for a township constable.

THEREFORE, Columbia Township hereby Ordains as follows:

1. Commencing with the Primary and General 2008 Elections, the office of elected constable will be eliminated.

2. Any constable elected and presently in office shall remain in office until that term of office ends.

The foregoing resolution offered by Board Member Burgett and supported by Board Member Hurley.

Upon roll call vote, the following voted.

Bradford aye

Burgett aye

Fogarty aye

Harrington nay

Hurley aye

The Supervisor declared the resolution adopted.
