Supervisor Bradford called the Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board to order. Present were Bradford, Burgett, Fogarty, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 39 citizens.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-May 15, 2007; bills through May 14, 2007; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

V. Pike-She was present at the robbing of Mr. Grocery. The township needs another deputy.

K. Stokes & D. Markovich-Both object to tax dollars being used for a personal vendetta against the Burgett’s. She would like to know what the attorney costs are associated with this.

J. Conway-Frank Grubisich built his garage without permits and partially in the road.

J. Huizenga-The 25 mph speed limit sign was removed from Silver Lake Road.

S. Hammond-The township can request a study (8-10 hours) for a speed limit sign. Cost to be paid by the township.

Supervisor: Looking into the cost of dust control for the township.

Fire Chief: 11 calls received in May: 1 good intent, 2 accidents, 3 trees down, 1 lightning strike, 1 grass/brush fires, 1 mutual aid, 1 outside rubbish, 1 structure. Average response time was 7.82 minutes. Tammy Leadingham, Steven Goril, and Jason Kruger, received their diplomas from the Van Buren County Firefighter Training Academy. Jason Kruger was the top student. Jason Moore, Max Streeter, Kenny Streeter and Richie Moore participated in the Jeptha Lake Lions Club Golf Outing.

Sheriff: 100 complaints received in May: 4 abandoned vehicle, 6 accidents, 6 alarm activation, 6 animal at large, 11 assault, 1 ATT pickup, 8 be on the look out, 4 breaking & entering, 1 criminal sexual conduct; 1 cruelty to animals, 2 delinquent minor, 1 dog law violation, 1 fraudulent activity, 14 general assistance, 1 health & safety, 4 invasion of privacy, 7 larceny, 3 MDOP, 1 obstructing justice, 7 public peace, 1 stolen vehicle, 5 suspicious situation, 2 traffic stops, 2 traffic violation, 1 VCSA. Propane tank copper tubing is being stolen.

State Police: No Report.

County Commissioner: No Report.

Planning Commission: All 5 Planning Commission members recommended approval of the Burgett site plan change to the Township Board.

Neighborhood Watch: Next meeting-July 12, 2007-7:00 pm. Theft of the Meth Watch Signs is a 2 year felony offense.

Hospital: The Buy a Brick Program benefits the Wellness Center. The SH Hospital campus will be going smoke free July 7, 2007. Sara Marr & Kailey Baker received $1,000 scholarships from the SH Hospital auxillary.

South Haven Senior Services: Senior Bingo and Senior Night Out have been a huge success.

Recreation/Cemetery: No Report.

Zoning Administrator: 5 Zoning Compliances issued in May: 1 attached garage, 1 barn, 1 sunroom addition, 1 garage, 2 decks.

Motion by Harrington, second by Hurley, to approve the Burgett site plan change. Carried. Burgett abstain.  Harrington stated that $100 fine should be paid by Burgett. Bradford stated that the $100 was for starting work before obtaining a permit. Burgett’s had all required permits.

Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to be closed from July 1 through July 7. Carried unanimously.
