Supervisor Bradford called the Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board to order. Present were Bradford, Burgett, Fogarty, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 27 citizens.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-June 21, 2005; Special Meeting Minutes- June 25, 2005; Planning Commission Meeting Minutes-June 7, 2005; bills through July 19, 2005; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

Guest Speaker:

bulletSheriff Gribler supported the police millage and the need for police protection in Columbia Township.
bulletState Trooper Kyle Gorham will be attending all meetings in the future and will give a report of the previous month’s activity.

Public Comment: Greg Sutka stated that 38 boxes of items were mailed to the troops in Iraq for Christmas in July.

Announcements: Thank you to the following for the donations for the Pancake Breakfast . Stokes Blueberries, Tru Blue Farms, Village Market, McDonalds, Mr. Grocery, G&G, Backroads, & Moses.

Additions/Corrections to Agenda: Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to move items 1 & 2 in New Business to Position 3 & 4 and Items 3 & 4 to Position 1 & 2. Carried unanimously.

Supervisor: Bradford read an excerpt from Authorities & Responsibilities of Township Officials, as follows:

"Only the business stated in the special meeting notice may be transacted, unless all members are present; then business that might lawfully come before a regular meeting of the board may be transacted (MCL 41.72a(3))".

Sheriff: 113 complaints received in June: 1 abandoned vehicle, 10 accidents, 2 alarm activation, 4 animal control, 11 assault, 1 ATT pickup, 8 be on the look out, 2 breaking & entering, 2 civil/property disputes, 2 cruelty to animals, 1 delinquent minor, 4 dog law violation, 33 general assistance, 2 harassing/nuisance, 5 health & safety, 1 invasion of privacy, 5 larceny, 1 MDOP, 1 obstructing justice, 1 open intoxicant, 9 public peace, 1 runaway, 2 stolen vehicle, 1 suspicious situation, 1 traffic violation, 1 VCSA, 1 vehicle inspection.

State Police: No Report.

County Commissioner: The Sheriff Department may be purchasing a boat slip in South Haven. Open Sewage complaint forms have been given to the township.

Fire Chief: 6 calls received in June: 1 cancelled en route, 2 medical assist, 2 personal injury, 1 water rescue. Average response time was 2.83 minutes. Firefighter Mike Brewer has been sent to Iraq.

Planning Commission: No Report.

Neighborhood Watch: Senator Ron Jelinek will be the guest speaker at the next meeting, August 4, 2005-7:30 pm. Neighborhood Watch donated $50 to Christmas in July for our troops. The pancake breakfast proceeds were $315 for Neighborhood Watch and $315 for the fire department. Tonya Schuitmaker’’s bill to put the ingredients to make meth behind the counter is on the governor’s desk.

Book Station: The Book Station will be donating some books to the AAUW for their annual book sale.

Hospital: A free screening program on Functional Movement for area student athletes is being offered by the Rehabilitation Dept.

South Haven Senior Services: John Dutton outlined the services offered.

Recreation/Cemetery: No Report.

Zoning Administrator: 6 Zoning Compliances issued in June: 1 wood frame, 1 deck,1 used mobile, 1 pole building, and 2 garages.

Blight Officer: 5 Blight complaints received in June.

Correspondence: Thank you letter from Palisades Nuclear Plant.

bulletMaris Underwood stated she would not want to be Harrington’s neighbor and would like to see his utility bills.
bulletJosephCalabrese asked Deputy Ron Douglas who made the blight complaint against him.
bulletJohn Huizenga asked Harrington to explain why he voted no to the police millage.
bulletGeorge Harrington stated that Vern Kreiger had served the township for many years.

Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to adjourn. Carried unanimously.
