The Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board was called to order by Supervisor Beckwith. Present were Beckwith, Burgett, Fogarty, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 30 citizens.

Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to approve the bills paid after the consent agenda. Carried unanimously.

Public Comment: Linda Miller—Thanks for supporting her for Supervisor. She hopes that the campaigns will be more positive in the future. Street lights and making more commercial areas are not keeping our township rural. Township property should be kept for open space. She would like to join the planning commission.

Supervisor: It has been a pleasure to serve Columbia Township as Supervisor.

Sheriff: 81 complaints received in October: 2 abandoned vehicle, 6 accidents, 8 alarm activation, 10 assault, 2 be on the look out, 4 breaking & entering, 1 civil/property disputes, 2 delinquent minor, 19 general assistance, 2 invasion of privacy, 1 larceny, 1 lost/found property, 2 MDOP, 4 missing person, 1 obstructing justice, 3 public peace, 2 reckless firearm, 4 suspicious situation, 1 traffic violation, 3 vehicle inspection, 3 weapons violation. Deer/car accidents happen more often between the hours of 5pm and 10pm. Hit a deer rather than on-coming traffic or the ditch.

State Police: No Report.

County Commissioner: No Report.

Fire Chief: 12 calls received in October, 1 auto accident, 2 car fires, 1 CO detector activation, 1 grass fire/unauthorized burning, 2 medical assist, 1 structure (assist to Bangor), 3 transformer fire/downed wire. Average response time was 6.33 minutes.

Planning Commission: Nextel Communication Tower site plan review will be the subject of the next meeting.

Neighborhood Watch: Remove old papers from boxes when your neighbors are away.

Book Station: Hours-Wednesday-10am to 2pm—Saturday-9am to Noon

Hospital: The Shoreline Women’s Center is now open. Water birthing is available at the hospital. 7,478 pounds of food were gathered for the Harvest Gathering Food Drive.

South Haven Senior Services: Volunteers are needed. Senior Services is trying to increase the services provided to Columbia Township.

Recreation/Cemetery: No Report.

Zoning Administrator: 8 Zoning Compliances issued in October: 2 decks, 1 hot tub room, 2 modulars, 1 roof, 1 migrant housing, 1 used mobile home.

Blight Officer: No Report.

Correspondence: None

Old Business: Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to sign the Addendum to Van Buren Fire Chiefs Association Mutual Aid Agreement. Defeated unanimously.

New Business:

Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to approve the Van Buren County Deputy Sheriff contract. Roll call vote. Beckwith aye, Burgett aye, Fogarty aye, Hurley aye, Harrington aye. Carried unanimously.
