The Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board was called to order by Supervisor Beckwith. Present were Beckwith, Burgett, Fogarty, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 37 citizens.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-March 16, 2004; Special Meeting Minutes- March 22, 29, 31, April 15, 2004; Planning Commission Meeting Minutes-March 2, 2004; bills through April 19, 2004; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

Clerk: Bills paid after the Consent Agenda.

Nebs Office Supply checks $341.23

Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve the bills paid after the consent agenda. Carried unanimously.

Public Comment: The Supervisor gave a report from the Bid Review Committee meeting on March 11, 2004.

Guest Speaker: Mike Henry, Republican Candidate for 80th District State Representative.

Larry King, Republican Candidate for 80th District State Representative.

Supervisor: The Columbia Township Board commends Coloma Ambulance for the good job they are doing. Copies of the article in the Bronson Level I News were distributed.

Sheriff: 94 complaints received in March: 2 abandoned vehicle, 5 accidents, 10 alarm activation, 1 animal control,

4 assault, 4 be on the look out, 4 breaking & entering, 2 civil/property disputes, 2 conservation, 1 delinquent minor,

24 general assistance, 1 harassing/nuisance, 1 health & safety, 4 invasion of privacy, 1 larceny, 1 lost/found property,

4 MDOP, 4 obstructing justice, 6 under the influence of liquor, 2 public peace, 5 suspicious situation, 4 traffic violation,

2 weapons violation.

State Police: No Report.

County Commissioner: No Report.

Fire Chief: 6 calls in March, 2 grass fires, 2 medical assist, 1 personal injury, 1 unauthorized burning. Average response time was 4.00 minutes. The Columbia Township Fire Department would like to remind everyone to make sure that burn barrels have proper covers. So far this spring there have been 7 brush/grass fire calls, 5 of which were started from burn barrels not properly covered. In one of these two dogs lost there lives.

Planning Commission: At the April 6 meeting the Funneling Ordinance was approved and sent to the Township Board for approval.

Neighborhood Watch: Next meeting-May 6, 2004-7:30 pm. Mary Ann Middaugh will be the guest speaker. Neighborhood Watch and the Fire Department will be holding their annual pancake breakfast on July 3, 2004.

Book Station: Lynne Farley submitted her resignation from the Book Station. Motion by Hurley, second by Fogarty, to accept Lynne Farley’s resignation. Carried unanimously.

Hospital: Denny Murk, owner of Village Market, has donated to the hospital the store across the street. It will be used for physical therapy.

South Haven Senior Services: No Report.

Recreation/Cemetery: No Report.

Zoning Administrator: 4 Zoning Compliances issued in March: 1 used mobile, 2 pole buildings, and 1 toilet facility.

Blight Officer: No Report.

Correspondence:

bulletA letter of response from Harold Schuitmaker to Dean Beckwith in regards to the legality of Burgett Builders being awarded the contract for the construction of the Emergency Services Building. Everything was done properly.
bulletAn email from the State Police that there is no state law forbidding concealed weapons in the township hall.
