The Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board was called to order by Supervisor Beckwith. Present were Beckwith, Burgett, Fogarty, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 17 citizens.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-August 19, 2003; Special Meeting Minutes- September 11, 2003; Planning Commission Meeting Minutes-August 5, 2003; bills through September 15, 2003; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

Clerk: Bills paid since September 15, 2003.

West Shore Fire Clothing $92.22

Motion by Burgett, second by Fogarty, to approve the bill paid after the consent agenda. Carried unanimously.

Supervisor: The Jephtha Lake Access issue is very close to being finalized.

Sheriff: 112 complaints received in August: 3 abandoned vehicle, 8 accidents, 12 alarm activation, 7 assault, 2 breaking & entering, 2 civil/property disputes, 1 criminal sexual conduct; 2 delinquent minor, 2 explosives, 9 general assistance, 1 invasion of privacy, 11 larceny, 5 MDOP, 7 obstructing justice, 2 open intoxicant, 1 under the influence of liquor, 7 public peace, 1 runaway, 1 stolen property, 2 stolen vehicle, 13 suspicious situation, 5 traffic violation, 5 VCSA, 3 vehicle inspection.

State Police: No Report.

County Commissioner: The administration of animal control is being transferred to the county sheriff.

Fire Chief: 9 calls since August 12, including 1 structure, 1 structure assist, 2 medical assists, 2 downed wires, 1 PI auto accident, 1 grass fire, and 1 cancelled en-route. Average response time was 6.11 minutes. Make sure to check furnaces and wood stoves for the coming heating season. A dinner/dance sponsored by the Columbia Township Fire Department will be held at the Dutch Mill Restaurant on November 7, 2003. Tickets-$20 adults-$10 children under 12.

Planning Commission: The Commercial District section of the Zoning Ordinance will be reviewed at the next Planning Commission meeting on October 7, 2003.

Neighborhood Watch: Next meeting-October 2, 2003-7:30 pm. Keep an inventory of all valuable possessions in case of robbery.

Book Station: Open Wednesday-2-5 pm and Saturday-10-2 pm.

Hospital: Dr. Karen Janson, Pediatrician and Dr. Crystal Darling, Radiologist, have joined the staff of South Haven Hospital. The "Harvest Gathering" annual food drive will be held from October 6-17.

Senior Services: Pinochle will be held 2 days a month at the Columbia Township Hall. Call 637-3607 for more information.

Recreation/Cemetery: The jail work crew cut brush at Thompson Cemetery and the Transfer Station on 52-1/2 St.

Zoning Administrator: 8 Building Compliances issued in August: 2 decks, 2 garages, 1 addition, 2 pole buildings, and 1 carport.

Blight Officer: 6 Blight complaints received in August.

Correspondence: Motion by Beckwith, second by Burgett, to accept the resignations of Peter Stanislawski from the Zoning Board of Appeals, and Gerald Grahek from the Board of Review. Carried unanimously.

Old Business: None

New Business:

bulletMotion by Beckwith, second by Fogarty, to appoint Dan Burgett to the Zoning Board of Appeals and Bryce May as alternate. Carried. Burgett abstain.
bulletMotion by Beckwith, second by Burgett, to add $1500 to the sales price of the properties currently listed for sale, to cover clearing the title. Carried unanimously.
bulletMotion by Beckwith, second by Fogarty, to appoint Chris Hodgman to the Board of Review. Carried unanimously.
