The Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board was called to order by Supervisor Beckwith. Present were Beckwith, Burgett, Fogarty, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 18 citizens.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-June 17, 2003; Planning Commission Meeting Minutes-June 3, 2003; bills through July 14; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Burgett, second by Hurley, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

Motion by Burgett, second by Beckwith, to approve the bills paid after the consent agenda. Carried unanimously.

Sheriff: 128 complaints received in June: 1 abandoned vehicle, 7 accidents, 10 alarm activation, 9 assault, 6 breaking & entering, 14 civil/property disputes, 1 conservation, 1 cruelty/neglect, 6 delinquent minor, 2 explosives, 1 fraudulent activity, 24 general assistance, 1 harassing/nuisance, 1 hit and run, 5 invasion of privacy, 3 larceny, 1 liquor law violation, 4 MDOP, 3 missing person, 5 obstructing justice, 7 public peace, 1 reckless firearm, 1 runaway, 1 stolen vehicle, 1 suspicious situation, 10 traffic violation, 1 VCSA, 1 vehicle inspection.

State Police: No Report

County Commissioner: Van Buren County will be buying the Optech voting system. The county will pick up the additional cost that the Federal Government does not pay. The townships, cities, and villages will only have to purchase voting stations.

Fire Chief: 11 calls in June, including 3 downed wires, 1 medical assist, 2 personal injury, 1 gas alarm, 1 rubbish fire, and 3 grass fires. Average response time for June was 4.09 minutes. The fire department will be selling T-shirts for $10 each.

Planning Commission: The planning commission is examining the site plan review process in the zoning ordinance. The next meeting will be August 5, 2003-7:00 pm.

Neighborhood Watch: Neighborhood Watch appreciates all the support for the pancake breakfast. The next meeting will be August 7, 2003 at 7:30 pm. Deputy Ron Douglas will be showing slides of 9/11 aftermath.

Book Station: Computer classes are being held at the Book Station. Call South Haven Senior Services for times and dates. 637-3607.

Hospital: No Report

Recreation/Cemetery: The jail work crew has started burning brush piles at Thompson Cemetery.

Zoning Administrator: Zoning Compliances issued in June: 3 modulars and 4 building additions.

Correspondence: South Haven Senior Services reported that in the second quarter of 2003 106 people attended an activity at the Columbia Township Hall.

bulletMotion by Burgett, seconded by Hurley, to approve the proposed settlement to Jim & Dale Ray in regards to Jephtha Lake Access. Carried unanimously.
