The Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board was called to order by Supervisor Beckwith. Present were Beckwith, Burgett, Fogarty, Hurley, and Harrington. In attendance were 23 citizens.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-April 15, 2003; Special Meeting Minutes- April 29, 2003; May 14, 2003; Planning Commission Meeting Minutes-April 1, 2003; bills through May 19, 2003; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Beckwith, second by Burgett, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

Clerk: No Report

Public Comment: Brad Noble from the New Attitudes Motorcycle Club in Breedsville invited all to a Pancake Breakfast, May 26, 2003, at the old Rabbit Inn-$4 per person.

Additions/Corrections to Agenda: None

Guest Speaker: Ron Davis, Bangor School Superintendent, made a presentation on the upcoming bond proposal for renovating Walnut Street school.

Supervisor: No Report

Sheriff: 90 complaints received in April: 8 accidents, 7 alarm activation (false), 1 alcohol related, 5 assault, 5 breaking & entering (2 false), 4 civil property disputes, 1 criminal sexual conduct, 2 delinquent minor, 8 general assistance, 3 larceny, 2 MDOP, 2 public peace, 2 reckless firearm, 1 stolen vehicle, 6 traffic violation, 8 warrants, and 25 other.

County Commissioner: The county equalization director, Constance M. Darling, will be leaving to become assessor of the City of Kalamazoo.

Fire Chief: 15 calls in April, including, 2 downed wires, 2 personal injury, 1 water rescue, 1 dispatch (cancelled en-route) and 4 grass fires. Average response time for April was 5.27 minutes. Seven firefighters received their certification. A carwash will be held at Bodfish & Sons in South Haven on May 31, 2003, 8am-4pm. Neighborhood Watch and Columbia Township Fire Department will be holding a Pancake Breakfast, July 5, 2003, from 8am-12pm, at the Columbia Township Hall.

Planning Commission: Revision of the Zoning Ordinance is continuing.

Neighborhood Watch: Next meeting-June 5, 2003-7:30 pm. Neighborhood Watch will be in the Breedsville Parade, May 26, 2003 at 11 am.

Book Station: South Haven Senior Services is looking for volunteers to teach computer classes at the Book Station.

Hospital: Construction has begun on the Women’s Center, Radiology, Surgery, and the pass thru through the court yard.

Recreation/Cemetery: No Report.

Zoning Administrator: 9 Building Compliances, 4 modulars, 1 pole building, 2 storage buildings, and 2 garages.

Blight Administrator: 4 Blight complaints received in April.

Correspondence: Letter commending Columbia Township Fire Chief; South Haven Senior Services Letter stating participation in activities at Columbia Township.
