RESOLUTION 2002- 21

"SENIOR CITIZENS SERVICES RESOLUTION"

WHEREAS, Public Act 39 of 1976 authorizes, and if the voters approve, Columbia Township to appropriate funds for activities or services for older/senior citizens; and,

WHEREAS, activities or services under said Act mean identifiable actions directed toward improvement of the social, legal health, housing, educational, nutritional, recreational, or mobility status of older persons, being persons 60 years and older; and,

WHEREAS, South Haven Area Senior Services, Inc. has provided, since 1995, in an exemplary manner, for older/senior citizens located in the South Haven area services social, legal, health, housing education, nutritional, recreational, and mobility services, including senior commodity distributions, counseling services, prescription drug assistance and Medicate/Medicaid counseling, transportation services and a Carewatch outreach program and the Township Board determines it is in the best interests of its older/senior citizens to have the opportunity to avail themselves of these services and programs.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Columbia Township Board, of Van Buren County, Michigan, contracts with South Haven Area Senior Services, Inc. as the exclusive agency to provide services for older citizens pursuant to PA 39 of 1976, and receive reimbursement from the revenue raised for the Senior Services Millage subject to annual review by the Township Board.

The foregoing resolution offered by Board Member Burgett and supported by Board Member Fogarty.
