The Regular Meeting of the Columbia Township Board was called to order by Supervisor Beckwith. Present were Beckwith, Burgett, Fogarty, Harrington, and Hurley. In attendance were 25 individuals.

Consent Agenda: Regular Meeting Minutes-August 21, 2001; Special Meeting Minutes-August 30, 2001; bills through September 17, 2001; Treasurer’s Report. Motion by Burgett, seconded by Hurley, to approve the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

Clerk's Report: Bills paid after Consent Agenda

Motion by Burgett, seconded by Fogarty, to approve the bills paid after the Consent Agenda. Carried unanimously.

Public Comment: A resident questioned the posting of Special Meetings.

Supervisor: No report

Sheriff: 88 calls received in August. Citizens Police Academy starts 9/20/01. Drive Michigan Safe is a program where an officer only issues tickets to anyone who does not have a seat belt on.

State Police: No Report

County Commissioner: No Report

Fire Chief: 7 calls in August. There should be 1 working smoke detector in every room. October 7-12 is Fire Prevention Week. There will be a fire prevention demonstration at the next Township Meeting.

Planning Commission: The Planning commission will be going over the rough draft for the Recreation Plan and the Mining Ordinance at our next meeting.

Neighborhood Watch: The Fire Department will be showing how to escape a fire at their next meeting.

Book Station: Recipes are needed for the Book Station cookbook.

Hospital: The hospital will be accepting food for We Care in South Haven, to be given to those in need.

Recreation: No Report

Grant Writing: No Report

CORRESPONDENCE: Letters were received from Frank & Jeannine Grubisich, concerned about the rules for the Land Sale, and how the Board will handle citizens requesting to inspect documents.

OLD BUSINESS: Motion by Burgett, seconded by Hurley, to table discussion of the Land sale until the next meeting. Carried.

NEW BUSINESS: None

NOTICES: Free Dump Day from 9-5 on 9/22/01 at the Transfer Station

Hazardous Waste Collection from 9-1 on 9/22/01 at the Bangor Public Works Building

PUBLIC COMMENT: Citizens requested a detailed break down of the fire calls. The unbuildable lots should give adjacent property owners the first opportunity to bid on them, before the general public.

AMEND AGENDA: Motion by Harrington, seconded by Fogarty, to add the purchase of hose fittings for the Fire Department to the agenda. Carried unanimously. Motion by Harrington, seconded by Fogarty, to purchase the hose fittings for the lesser bid. Carried unanimously.
