RESOLUTION 2001-02

AMENDING PROPERTY TAX

POVERTY EXEMPTION GUIDELINES

WHEREAS, Act 390 of Public Acts of 1994 requires the legislative body of local assessing units to adopt guidelines which the local assessing unit shall use when considering and granting property tax poverty exemptions; and

WHEREAS, the United States Office of Management and Budget annually provides Poverty Income Standards which may be incorporated into such locally adopted guidelines; and

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that Columbia Township, Van Buren County, hereby approves and adopts the Columbia Township Property Tax Poverty Exemption Guidelines as amended on this date and attached hereto; and

BE IF FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Columbia Township poverty thresholds be set at 7% above the current Federal Poverty Income Standards.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in the event any part of said Guidelines is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, all other parts of said Guidelines shall remain valid and in full force and effect; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that all resolutions and parts of resolutions insofar as they conflict with the provisions of this resolution are hereby rescinded; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage by the Columbia Township Board.
