Supervisor Beckwith called the Special Meeting of Columbia Township Board to order at 7:30 p.m. Present Beckwith, Speicher, May, Harrington and Landers.
PURPOSE: Interview three candidates who applied for the position of Fire Chief.
Develop an offer package to offer candidate selected.
SPECIAL MEETING BUSNESS:
- Interviewed Harry W. Rogalla, three top priorities are volunteers, equipment and working relationship. Vision for the future would be to obtain 20 –24 volunteers capable of covering both days and nights with a minimum of 10 volunteers. Interested in obtaining $20,000 per year in salary and $15.00 per hour during response for fire department.
- Interview Brian L. Florey, three top priorities are volunteers, equipment and education/experience/motivation. Vision for the future would be 30 to 35 volunteers. Working on his paramedic license wants full time and willing to work for peanuts. Which he stated equated to $25,000 per year.
- Interviewed Anthony Yukic, three top priorities are Safety, Personal property protection and company safety. Vision for the future would be to obtain 21 to 40 volunteers. Interested in obtaining $40,000.00 for a full time job.
Discussion: The board discussed each candidate in detail.
- May moved to appoint Harry W. Rogalla as acting fire chief with a salary set at $1,350 per month, $20.00 per response and $20.00 for each hour after the response. Harry W. Rogalla to provide the board with goals and objectives by August 1, 1999. In January of 2000, the board will review and evaluate the goals and objectives with Harry W. Rogalla, seconded by Landers. Carried unanimously.
- May moved to approve seven individuals as on call fire fighters, contingent on obtaining physicals, background checks, verification of current shots and W-4s, seconded by Harrington. Carried unanimously.
