Supervisor Beckwith called the Special Meeting of Columbia Township Board to order at 7:30 p.m. Present Beckwith, Speicher, May, Harrington and Landers.
Fire Committee in attendance with one other.
SPECIAL MEETING BUSNESS:
- Harrington moved to obtain fuel for the fire department by use of a credit card from Bloomingdale Farmer’s Supply, seconded by Speicher. Carried unanimously.
- Harrington moved to have Speicher make the necessary contacts to get the phone and electrical companies to change service of the Grand Junction Fire Station from BBACG to Columbia Township, seconded by Landers. Carried unanimously.
- Harrington moved to change the locks on the Grand Junction Fire Station July 1, 1999, and make extra keys as deemed necessary for the Columbia Township Fire Department personnel, seconded by May. Carried unanimously.
- Harrington moved to increase the cost of the water well next to the Grand Junction Fire Station from $ 7,260 to $ 11,300, seconded by Beckwith. Carried unanimously.
Discussion: the depth of the well will be increased from 85 feet to 200 feet. The test well found a vain between 154 feet and 208 feet, so a forty foot screen will be installed. The size of the pump has not been determined at this time as the eight inch well will have to be drilled and tested first.
- Harrington moved to have Speicher obtain insurance for the Fire Station and department and assume six qualified fire fighters on the Fire Department by July 1, 1999, seconded by Landers. Carried unanimously.
Discussion: Use current workman comp insurance carrier, replacement cost for the building and midrange accidental / medical benefits. Time is of the essence.
- May moved to table purchase of property for a new fire station, seconded by Landers. Carried unanimously.
- Harrington moved to purchase one half of a push lawn mower with grounds keeper Jeff Gasper at a cost of $ 150, seconded by Landers
- Beckwith moved to issue payment to the BBACG for $ 33, 416 (+/- $ 5.00) upon receipt of an itemized invoice from the BBACG. The Clerk shall place a statement on the check to the BBACG stating "payment made per the direction of BBACG Fire Board, reference: BBACG’s June 22, 1999 Special Meeting", seconded by Landers.
- Beckwith moved to pay Heritage Flag and Banner, Inc, for $169.92, (flags for cemetery) seconded by Harrington. Carried unanimously.
- Landers moved to purchase and install a new sign on the Grand Junction Fire Station not to exceed $300, seconded by May. Carried unanimously.
Discussion: Beckwith will talk to the painter of the original sign.
Public Comment: Fire Lane Signs on County Road 388 face the wrong direction, if you’re coming from Bloomingdale. Rogalla stated when the telephone company put in new phone lines they had to move the signs and did not re-install them in the right position. It is something to put on the list of things to do.
