COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP BOARD MEETING MINUTES

Type of Meeting:

SPECIAL

Date of Meeting:

Wednesday, February 24, 1999

A Special Meeting between Columbia Township Board and Lee Township Board was held as an informational session. The Joint Board Meeting was held at Lee Township Hall and began at 7:00 p.m. Present were Beckwith, Speicher, May, and Harrington from Columbia Township, and Sally Troutman (Supervisor), Pasty Neville (Clerk), and Jessie Lowery (Trustee) and _______ (Fire Chief).

The joint boards discussed the current situation with Columbia Township and the Administrative Joint Fire Board for the BBACG.

Columbia Township was interested in having Lee Township Fire Department provided fire protection for one-half of Columbia Township which would be the Western section.

Pasty Neville was concern with having a fire in Lee Township while providing fire protection in Columbia Township.

The Fire Chief was concern with the southern part of Columbia Township being so far away (he would be reluctant to service all the way to 24th avenue as it could effect his statistics and ISO rating) and suggested that we form our own fire department and hire a person to help develop a fire department. He recommended Harry Rogalla for the position. He also stated it was very important to get volunteers and we should sign up the previous fire fighters for the Township. Columbia Township should develop a mutual aid agreement with the adjoining fire departments, including City of Bangor. But most importantly pin down the volunteers and try to get at least four available on days and four available on nights. Need to approve an ordinance for having a Fire Department soon.

Westshore Services has some nice fire equipment for sale and will give you a good price to get you going with equipment. Columbia Township needs to know what they are going to get out of the BBACG and when the equipment is available.

Lee Township suggested we get more information and then get back in contact with them with some answers. They are willing to help in setting up a Columbia Township Fire Department, but would really like to see Columbia Township have its own fire department.

The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.

Kenneth J. Speicher

Columbia Township Clerk
