A special meeting of the Columbia Township Board was called to order by Supervisor Larry Burgett. Present were Grahek, Krohn, Landers, and Harrington.
Burgett announced that the reason for the meeting was to decide where to allocate money, and how much to allocate for various road projects in the township. And to decide which projects to pursue.
In the category of dust control, ditching, sealcoat, and gravel, the approximate figures used were as follows:
|
Dust control (2 applications) |
$11,000.00 |
|
Ditching |
$ 1,500.00 |
|
Sealcoat (49th and 51st Streets) |
$ 7,000.00 |
|
Gravel (2000 yds.) |
$12.000.00 |
|
These approximate figures total |
$31,500.00 |
Landers moved to allocate up to $35,000.00 for these uses. Motion was seconded by Burgett and carried unanimously.
In the category of paving, the following estimates for preparation for paving were discussed:
14th Ave. from CR 215 to 56th St. $58,355.00
16th Ave. from CR 215 to 56th St. $34,276.00
47th St. from 24th Ave. to CR 380 $60,500.00
Harrington pointed out a study he had done which indicated that the western third of the township was well behind the middle third and eastern third in having roads paved. The western third still has approximately 15 mi. of gravel roads, while the middle third has about 7 mi., and the eastern third has about 10 mi.
Burgett pointed out the number of people and businesses that are located on, and use, 14th and 16th Avenues.
Krohn pointed out the number of people from the eastern part of the township who use 47th St.
Grahek suggested we not commit more than $100,00.00 in this category, and moved to consider each road individually and to vote on them separately. Seconded by Burgett.
