New Delinquent Tax Law

Public Act 123 of 1999 shortened the amount of time property owners have to pay delinquent taxes before loosing their property.  Previous law allowed property taxes to remain delinquent for an extended period before the property was subject to foreclosure.  Taxpayers now have only 2 years from the date of delinquency.

"Forfeiture" after 1 year is different than "foreclosure" after 2 years.  Your property remains in forfeiture for one year.  Foreclosure (or 21 days afterward) is final and irrevocable.
